MLB umpire C.B. Bucknor faced scrutiny and laughter when he made a strange call while officiating at the first base line during a game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.
The oddity occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brewers hitter Jake Bauers struck out Rays pitcher Cole Sulser. Bauers hit Ray to second baseman Ben Williamson, who grounded the ball but his quick throw to first base was wide.

It was a perfectly routine game by baseball standards. However, Bucknor ruled that Bauers did not touch first base and was out of the game when he was tagged. Replay showed Bauers clearly touching the first base bag when Bucknor was just a few yards away from the play.
The call was immediately rejected.

Bauers was seen smiling as he headed back to first base, as did Brewers manager Pat Murphy. Rays manager Kevin Cash couldn’t help but smile at the situation.
Former New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain also weighed in.
“This is so bad you just have to laugh! Something needs to be done,” he wrote to X.
Milwaukee won the game 6-2. Bauers was 2-for-4 with an RBI. He extended the lead with a home run by Yoendrys Gomez in the eighth inning.
