Karine Jean-Pierre spars with Bulwark critic over Biden press interactions

Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre weighed in with The Bulwark’s Tim Miller on Monday about former President Joe Biden’s interactions with the press.
“Jean-Pierre”TrenchHe launched the podcast to promote his new memoir, “Independent,” which focuses on his time in the Biden administration. During the podcast, Miller criticized Biden as a poor communicator and asked if he ever talked to her about his age.
Jean-Pierre said he never talked to Biden about his age, but maintained that Biden communicated his ideas well, “whether he gets ahead or not.”

“He talked to the press a lot less than Donald Trump,” Miller said. “A lot less. And he wasn’t there. He wasn’t very good right away. He wasn’t doing press conferences. Let’s be real. Like, he wasn’t doing events.”
“But Tim, that’s not true,” Jean-Pierre interrupted. “Tim, you’re mixing it all up. You… no, you… first you tell me he doesn’t talk very well about it. Then you tell me he doesn’t talk at all.”
“He did neither. He didn’t talk very often, and when he did, it wasn’t very good. He sounded very old and weak,” Miller argued.

Jean-Pierre claimed Miller “wasn’t paying attention” and insisted Biden spoke to the public frequently.
“The President spoke to the American people several times a week. He traveled, he traveled domestically, and he spoke directly to the American people. We’re talking about an incredibly partisan period politically. It’s hard to break any message, and it was also a duty,” Jean-Pierre said.

Earlier that day, Jean-Pierre defended Biden’s mental acuity on “CBS Mornings” despite behind-the-scenes reports that the former president’s health was deteriorating while in office.

“I saw someone who was always busy. I saw someone who understood politics, led us to politics, and also understood history,” Jean-Pierre said.
