The US President recently described Sir Keir as “no Winston Churchill”, also described British aircraft carriers as “toys” and said “don’t bother” sending aid from the Royal Navy because “we don’t need it”.
Trump also said: “It’s destroying relations. We’re very surprised. The person we’re dealing with is not Winston Churchill.”
The upcoming visit will celebrate historical connections as well as touch upon modern bilateral relations between the two countries.
This is the late Queen Elizabeth II. It marks Elizabeth’s first official visit to the United States since 2007, when she was welcomed by former President George W. Bush.
The US President, who has previously spoken of his fondness for the Royal Family, described the upcoming trip as a “significant opportunity” and is said to be planning to host a “beautiful” banquet dinner at the White House.
He also said: “I’m looking forward to spending time with the King, whom I respect so much. It’s going to be wonderful.”
There were calls for the trip to be postponed as it took place against the backdrop of the Iran war, which has caused serious tension between British and US leaders.
After his visits, the King goes on a solo trip to Bermuda.
