11 Arrested In Connection With Sale Of IPL Tickets In ‘Black’

BENGALUR: Fears expressed by Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar regarding online sale of Indian Premier League (IPL) match tickets leading to ‘black market’ sales have come true after the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru police arrested 11 persons in connection with the ‘black’ sale of IPL tickets and seized 8 mobile phones used in ‘black marketeering’.
CCB sleuths also seized as many as 28 tickets from those arrested. The police recovered screenshots of the tickets put up for sale by the arrested persons in ‘black’ and the estimated value of the tickets put up for sale is Rs. 4.55 lakhs.
The sale of ‘Black’ IPL tickets comes on the occasion of the match played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Superkings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru city on Sunday.
Cubbon Park police arrested 10 people and Chamarajapete police arrested one person in connection with the sale of ‘black’ IPL tickets. While Cubbon Park police seized 7 mobile phones used in the sale of IPL tickets in ‘black’, Chamarajpete police seized one mobile phone from the arrested person.
18 IPL tickets to be sold in ‘Black’ were seized by Cubbon Park police and 10 by Chamarajapete police. Both Cubbon Park and Chamarajapet police have registered cases against those arrested and investigations are ongoing.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh told a press conference that the police will monitor the sale of IPL ‘black’ tickets in the coming days and monitor activities on social media and related apps to track down people involved in the ‘black’ market sale of IPL tickets.
