World Bank Technical Team Visits Capital Region Projects
: Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) has designed projects with a strong focus on developing eco-tourism-centric infrastructure in the capital region, D. Lakshmi Parthasarathy, chairman and managing director (CMD) of Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC), informed the visiting World Bank technical team on Tuesday.
The delegation toured major project sites including Gravity Canal, Neerukonda, Penumaka and displacement facilities in Amaravati district. The 7.8 km-long Gravity Canal, designed to divert excess floodwaters from Kondaveeti Vagu to the Krishna River, is being developed as a major eco-tourism attraction, officials said. 5.9 km of the total length has already been completed. The project also includes street plantations and recreational activities such as boating guided by global experts.
The team visited the translocation nursery at Ananthavaram, where large trees obstructing construction were carefully relocated and protected. The nursery also houses a variety of medicinal plants and is being developed as a green recreation area for residents and professionals. World Bank representatives praised the initiative as “remarkable.”
In Neerukonda, officials have outlined a 440-acre reservoir project with a capacity of 0.4 TMC, of which 30 per cent has been completed. The project is expected to become operational in March next year. A 190-acre reservoir is also under development at Penumaka to boost tourism.
The team also inspected Kondaveeti Vagu flood pump station, where officials announced flood management measures.
