Politics LIVE: Keir Starmer breaks silence on Iran ceasefire as PM travels to Gulf | Politics | News

Confirming the ceasefire, the President wrote on the social media platform Truth Social:
“Based on my discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, in which they requested me to stop the destructive force that will be sent to Iran tonight, and subject to the agreement of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I accept the suspension of bombings and attacks on Iran for two weeks.
“This will be a bilateral ceasefire!
“The reason we are doing this is because we have already achieved and exceeded all Military objectives and are very close to a definitive Agreement with Iran on Long Term PEACE and PEACE in the Middle East.
“We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran and believe this is a workable basis for negotiation. Almost all past disputes between the United States and Iran have been agreed upon, but a two-week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and completed.
“As President and on behalf of the United States of America representing the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor that this long-term problem is close to a solution.”
