Man incited racial violence with Cronulla bashing calls

A young man has admitted inciting racist violence in the immediate aftermath of the Bondi Beach massacre by calling for beatings on a beach that was at the center of infamous race riots 20 years ago.

Ryder Roy Shaw, 20, used a pseudonym to post two images on TikTok on December 15, 2025, urging his followers to “fuck you” and riot at Cronulla Beach the following Saturday.

More than two decades after the coast became the epicenter of infamous race riots, his incendiary posts called for violence against the people of the Middle East.

More than 100 people were arrested in the riots on 11 December 2005 following a text message calling on “Australians” to show people of Middle Eastern descent that they were not welcome.

Shaw echoed this rhetoric in posts on TikTok, captioning one image with a misspelled plea for Australians to gather at the beach in “large crowds” for “Middle East Bashing Day”.

“Spread the work! (sic) Wake up Australia,” he wrote.

After sharing the images under a pseudonym, the Narara resident used a TikTok account under his own name to post a comment declaring that he “HATES Islam.”

“Let’s make this happen,” she wrote under one of the photos.

The riots were unsuccessful and Shaw was arrested at his home on the NSW Central Coast on 21 December.

Through his lawyer, he pleaded guilty at Gosford Local Court on Thursday to inciting violence against a group on the grounds of race and religion.

Shaw has been in custody since his arrest and did not appear in court when his case was stated.

He faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison on each count when he is sentenced in May.

Shaw’s posts came a day after two gunmen opened fire on a Hanukkah crowd at Bondi Beach on the evening of December 14, killing 15 people and wounding dozens more.

Asked about calls for riots, NSW Premier Chris Minns warned that anyone seeking to incite racial violence or separatism would be investigated by police.

“There is zero tolerance for this right now,” he said at the time.
