Three charged after police foil alleged ‘kill car’ plot

Police say they have shut down an alleged ‘car kill’ plot in Sydney following suspicious gang-related activity, including several drive-by shootings.
Three men have been charged after allegedly leading NSW Police on a chase across western Sydney overnight, during which canisters were thrown from the car onto the M4 highway.
The vehicle, allegedly a stolen Audi, was crashed by police and stopped before the three men inside escaped.
Following a foot pursuit by police, two men, a 28-year-old and a 24-year-old, were taken to the Auburn police station.
During a search of the car, police said they found a semi-automatic rifle, a handgun and a cloned license plate, which were seized for forensic examination.
All three men were charged with multiple offenses and refused bail to appear in court on Sunday.
Police believe the Audi is linked to a spate of shootings and firebombings in Sydney’s south-west over the past few weeks.
Meanwhile, detectives are investigating two shootings in western Sydney in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police were called to a house in Punchbowl at around 2.45am and discovered multiple shots had been fired in front of the house by unidentified persons in a car.
Shortly after at 3am, officers were called to a home in Greenacre following reports of another drive-by shooting.
No one was injured in either incident, which police believe is related.
