“Euphoria” sparked a firestorm after its third season opener aired Sunday, as viewers questioned Sydney Sweeney’s storyline and condemned the show’s creative direction.
Fans were quick to claim that the award-winning HBO show was “degrading” to Sweeney, who stars as Cassie Howard. After a nearly five-year hiatus, “Euphoria” returned Sunday with Sweeney’s character set to marry her boyfriend Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi. In the opening scene, Sweeney is dressed in a flamboyant dog costume and appears to be filming provocative videos for social media. Sweeney barked like a dog and even drank on all fours while wearing the low-cut dress.
While the duo was struggling to make ends meet, Sweeney’s character eventually came up with the idea of opening an OnlyFans account.
Sweeney’s storyline didn’t sit well with fans, who watched the actress undergo similar humiliating character shifts in seasons one and two.
