Student opens fire at a school in Turkey, killing four

A student opened fire at random into two classrooms of a school in southeastern Türkiye, killing four people and wounding 20 others.

Kahramanmaraş Governor Mükerrem Ünlüer said that the student who was also killed came to school on Wednesday with guns belonging to his father, a retired police officer.

He was carrying five firearms and seven magazines.

Ünlüer said that a teacher and three students were among the victims.

The reason for the attack was not immediately known.

In previous media reports, it was reported that the authorities sent police and an ambulance to the school in Kahramanmaraş’s Onikisubat district after gunshots were heard.

Video footage taken from the scene shows at least two people being put into ambulances.

The day before, 16 people, most of them students, were injured when a former student opened fire at a high school in Şanlıurfa.
