Only a third of young women hold positive view of men, new poll finds
Only 35 per cent of British women under 25 have a positive view of men, according to a new survey.
The findings show that only 11 percent of young women have a very positive view of men, while women under 30 are three times more likely to have a negative view of men than women over 30.
According to the survey conducted by Merlin Strategy New Statesmanyoung women “don’t care” about young men, believing the feelings are mutual and suggesting they are overly focused on sexual motivation and uninterested in political issues; Women aged 18 to 30 were found to be by far the most progressive demographic group in the UK.
The research found that young women were 26 percent less likely to feel positive about capitalism than young men.
They were also much less likely to believe that the economy was working in their favor and were much more pessimistic about their own and others’ futures. While young men are more likely to be unemployed, young women are 21 points less likely to believe they will earn more than their parents.
And more privileged women were found to be the most pessimistic; Women in middle-class occupations were less likely than their working-class counterparts to believe that they are valued by society or that they will succeed in life if they work hard.
Under-25s were found to be twice as likely as younger men to not want children and said they feared being pressured into having babies by the Reform UK government.
When asked how she felt about the men she met, a girl named Ruby said: New Statesman: “I don’t care about them. They’re not bad people, but they refuse to call out their friends who bother other girls. They laugh at sexist, racist, homophobic jokes; they don’t care about political issues… I don’t think they like women very much… I think most men are sexually motivated.” He said men will only discuss topics like toxic misogyny if they like him.
The group of young women he was with agreed that they would not date a man with different politics, with one of them telling the publication: “I don’t even think I could be friends with anyone. They don’t see you as a human being.”
Evelyn was the only one who admitted to having boyfriends and shared her concerns about what content they consumed online. “It’s crazy what they say about women,” he said New Statesman. “They get all these reels of women talking about bad things about men. And I get all these reels of women saying bad things about men. I’m trying to think, not all men are like that, but…”
