Heat Wave Intensifies in North Telangana; IMD Issues Orange Alert

Nizamabad: Heatwave conditions have intensified in northern Telangana districts with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of further rise in temperatures in the next three days. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 44°C in some areas.
IMD issued an orange alert for Nizamabad, Kamareddy and Medak districts and warned that heat wave conditions may prevail during this period. Daytime temperatures have already exceeded 43°C in some parts of the state and may rise another 1-2°C in the coming days, officials said.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid movement outdoors between 11am and 3pm as severe heat conditions are expected to continue. Citizens were asked to take precautions against diseases caused by thirst and heat.
With increasing temperatures, public activity during daylight hours has decreased significantly. In Nizamabad, even routine morning walks in public areas were affected; People avoided exercising outdoors after 8 a.m. due to intense heat.
The IMD forecast shows that Telangana may experience above-normal heatwave days between April and June, with maximum temperatures likely to exceed 45°C in May. Authorities said that severe heat conditions, especially in northern regions, will continue until April 22.
A yellow alert was issued for other parts of the region as a precaution. Authorities urged the public to exercise caution and limit exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours.
Public school teacher D. Anjaneyulu said students and teachers were facing difficulties due to extreme summer conditions. He said morning classes were held to reduce heat exposure, but conditions continued to impact attendance and movement.
He added that some parents still continue to send their children to school despite the heat, which increases concerns about safety during the hours when the temperature is highest.
