According to the Associated Press, Eastman, who was a close adviser to the president in the lead-up to the US Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, wrote a memo regarding then-Vice President Mike Pence’s plan to reject the electoral votes cast for Joe Biden while presiding over a joint session of Congress on January 6 in an effort to keep Trump in office.

“Following comprehensive proceedings before the State Bar Court Hearing and Review Divisions, both of which found Mr. Eastman guilty of serious ethical violations, the Court imposed the discipline warranted by clear and convincing evidence that he made false claims about the 2020 presidential election with the intent to mislead courts, public officials, and the American public,” said George Cardona, Chief Trial Counsel for the State Bar Association.

“The court’s decision underscores that Mr. Eastman’s misconduct is incompatible with the standards of integrity required of every California attorney,” Cardona said in a statement released by the State Bar of California. he added.
