Goods carrier driver falls asleep at wheel, dies after crashing into lorry on ORR

A freight driver died and another person was injured when the vehicle crashed into a truck on the Outer Ring Road near Shamirpet on Monday, May 25.
According to police, the incident took place when a family from Uppal was transporting their household goods to Beeramguda using a load carrier booked through the NoBroker website.
The complainant told the police that her sister Sunitha, 34, had hired the vehicle for transportation of household goods. At around 6.30 in the morning, the goods carrier with registration number AP 28 V 5114 came to their home with the workers to load the goods.
Police said the vehicle left Uppal around 9.30 am and entered ORR in Ghatkesar. The complainant was traveling in the cab along with the driver, identified as Narati Ravi, and another worker, while all three workers were sitting at the rear of the vehicle.
It was alleged that the complainant noticed that the vehicle was going towards the left side of the road after passing Shamirpet around 11:00 in the morning and that the driver had fallen asleep while driving. Before the goods carrier had a chance to warn him, he allegedly crashed into a truck with plate number TS 07 UB 5557.
Due to the impact, the front part of the cabin was completely crushed and three people were trapped inside. While Narati Ravi died on the spot, the complainant suffered minor injuries and a fracture in his leg. He was later transferred to the hospital for treatment.
Shamirpet police registered a case and launched an investigation.
