5 things you need to know about Prince Harry and Meghan’s Australia tour
- During the trip, Meghan Markle quietly filmed a guest appearance on MasterChef Australia. She served as a guest judge, mentoring home cooks alongside regular judges such as Poh Ling Yeow and Sofia Levin. The official MasterChef Instagram account confirmed that he will appear in the 18th season of the series.
- At a leadership summit in Melbourne, Prince Harry candidly admitted that he realized he “didn’t like” royal life when he was just 12 years old. He explained that he felt the institution “killed” him after his mother’s death and spent years with his head “stuck in the sand” because he didn’t want the role.
- Speaking at an event organized by the charity Movember, Harry described his desire to be an “upgrade” as a parent compared to previous generations. She talked about having to “cleanse” herself from the past through therapy in order to be the best version of herself for her children Archie and Lilibet.
- The tour was met with a significant amount of local criticism. One major newspaper, The Sydney Morning Herald, accused the couple of treating Australia “like an ATM” and suggested the visit was more about self-promotion and making money than official service. Some residents also testified that they were unaware that the couple had even visited.
- During the “Wound Tree Walk” in Melbourne, Harry had to intervene when local reporter Paul Dowsley tried to take a selfie with the couple. Although described as a breach of protocol, the interaction was reportedly good-natured, with Harry even complimenting the reporter on her tie while pushing her out of Meghan’s way.
