St George Illawarra Dragons’ Jaydn Su’A hit with three-match ban
St George Illawarra’s woes continued with Jaydn Su’A facing three games on the sidelines for a dangerous tackle on South Sydney captain Cameron Murray.
Su’A was hit with a third-degree shoulder charge by the match review committee on Sunday morning after becoming the first player to be sent off in the 2026 season.
If he pleads guilty, Su’A will return against the Warriors in round 12, while if he chooses to fight the charges in the judiciary and loses, the Samoan international will return to Manly the following week.
The South players were unimpressed with Su’A shooting off the line; Injured back-rower David Fifita was caught on TV cameras shouting at the Parramatta-bound Dragon while standing on the tunnel at the Accor Stadium.
The Dragons lost all six games as the pressure mounted on manager Shane Flanagan.
His immediate future will be discussed at the club board meeting on Tuesday night, but there is an expectation that if the coach retains his job it will be after Saturday’s Anzac Day clash with the Sydney Roosters, so there is little risk of any interest being lost from this incident. The Dragons will also bid farewell the following week.
In other Dragons news on Saturday night, Hooker Jacob Liddle injured his hamstring ahead of kick-off, while Damien Cook required stitches for a deep cut on his hand.
Boom young back rower Dylan Egan is expected to return from an anterior cruciate ligament rupture next weekend, but the plan was to gain some minutes in reserve grade rather than give him a daunting first assignment against the Chooks.
More to come…
