FBI orders 260 staffers to Georgia to assist with 2020 election investigation | FBI

The FBI asked field offices across the country to dedicate more than 200 personnel to the investigation into the 2020 election in Fulton County, Georgia.

A memo obtained by The Associated Press on Thursday calls for the FBI to “concentrate” its 260 investigative analysts and staff operations experts on what it describes as a “priority investigation” effort.

Each must check an estimated 708 records by July 17, it said. Although the memo did not disclose the investigation, people familiar with the matter, who insisted on anonymity to discuss internal decision-making, confirmed that the request was to assist in the Georgia 2020 election investigation.

In January, FBI agents seized hundreds of boxes containing ballots and other documents related to the 2020 election in Georgia’s most populous county, which is predominantly Democratic and includes most of the city of Atlanta.

A Fulton County spokesman declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation.

The contents of the note were first reported by MS Now.

Donald Trump and his allies have made false claims that widespread election fraud cost him the 2020 election. Georgia’s votes in the 2020 presidential race were counted three times, once by hand, and each count confirmed Joe Biden’s victory.

The justice department had previously said it was investigating “irregularities that occurred during the 2020 presidential elections in the district.”
