North Korea launches multiple ballistic missiles into sea off east coast

SEOUL, South Korea: It was stated that North Korea launched many ballistic missiles towards the sea on Sunday, the South Korean army’s latest weapons testing activity this year.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the launches were made Sunday morning from the North’s eastern Sinpo region.

It was stated that South Korea strengthened its surveillance stance and exchanged close information with the United States and Japan.

Japan’s Defense Ministry also said North Korea fired a suspected ballistic missile.

Last week, Pyongyang said leader Kim Jong Un oversaw missile tests aboard the country’s destroyer. After the test, Kim said his government was focused on “unlimited expansion” of its nuclear forces and assigned unspecified new missions to improve the country’s nuclear strike and rapid response capabilities.

International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Rafael Grossi said last week that his agency had confirmed a “rapid increase” in activity at nuclear facilities in North Korea.
