Karnataka, Bengaluru weather update: Bangalore to get more rainfall, IMD warns of heavy showers and thunderstorms across state

Koppal, Dharwad, Gadag, Vijayanagara, Haveri, Davanagere, Shivamogga, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Raichur, Bagalkote, Belagavi, Ballari, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Kolar, IMD, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and Chamarajanagar districts, he said. The ministry has also predicted rainfall in Mysuru district.
Rain in Bengaluru today
IMD issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and surrounding areas on Thursday. The forecast said that cloudy weather is expected, cloud formation will increase in the afternoon and the possibility of precipitation is expected in the evening. The rain warning is expected to affect popular hill station areas near Bengaluru. While the wind is expected to blow at 40 kilometers per hour, the same situation may cause trees to fall. Sustained lightning may affect going out.
Heavy rain in Karnataka
According to the Meteorological Department, Karnataka will continue to experience heavy pre-monsoon showers from May 22 onwards and thunderstorms are expected in many parts of the state. Both North and South Interior Karnataka may witness heavy rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph.
An orange alert has been issued for Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts, where heavy rainfall and possible hailstorm are expected on Thursday. A yellow alert has also been issued for Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumkur, Ramanagara and Mandya districts and moderate to heavy rain is expected in these areas.
Areas including Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag may also experience heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning activity. At the same time, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi and Raichur are also expected to experience hot and dry conditions with temperatures ranging between 39°C and 42°C. However, some places may experience cool evening winds or light showers before the monsoon.
The ministry has also warned of thunderstorms with wind speed of 30-40 km per hour at isolated places along the Karnataka Coast between May 22 and May 24. Fishermen were advised not to swim during this period due to harsh weather conditions.
