Mother and six children killed in explosion and fire at Pennsylvania home | Pennsylvania

A mother and her six children, ages 3 to 11, were killed in an explosion and fire at a home in central Pennsylvania, authorities said.

Pennsylvania state police said in a statement that firefighters responding to a report of an explosion and fire at a home in Lamar Township in Clinton County near Mill Hall on Sunday morning confirmed that seven people were trapped, but were unable to take the building engulfed in flames. All seven people died, and police identified them as 34-year-old Sarah Stolzfus, her four sons, ages 11, 10, five and three, and two daughters, ages eight and six.

The reason is being investigated. Police stated that the explosion and fire may have been caused by a propane leak inside the house, noting that the propane tanks outside did not explode and were not contributing factors to the explosion and fire.

Neighbor Christina Duck told WNEP-TV she was eating breakfast when it started.

“I heard an explosion and I could feel it, I stood up and looked out the window, I saw flames through the windows and I ran out and within a minute the whole house was completely flooded,” Duck said. Duck said that the family moved here a few months ago and stated that he often sees the children playing outside.
