UK pledges £27m in new aid for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

The UK government announced fresh human finance in Bangladesh to support more than 500,000 Rohingya refugees.
At the beginning of this week, the package was introduced by Foreign Minister Yette Cooper before the situation of a key UN conference on Myanmar and the state of minority groups such as Rohingya, where the war shattered.
Finance will provide food, shelter, water and health services to people displaced by conflicts in Myanmar. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it would provide special support to those who survives sexual, physical and mental damage as well as sexual and reproductive health services for 175,000 women and girls.
“This new British aid will provide basic food, shelter, clean water and other life -saving services to half a million Rohingya people in Bangladesh, and also help support host communities from Bangladesh,” Cooper said.
“The UK will continue to work without getting tired to ensure that those who are displaced by violence have the support, protection, dignity and opportunities they deserve.”

Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh Cox’s Bazar, which has hosted approximately one million people who have escaped from the persecution since 2017, faced serious financing deficiencies in 2024 and 2025 after the US Donald Trump suddenly stopped the foreign assistance of US Donald Trump and dismantled the US agency for international development.
According to the UN, financing deductions of the US and other Western countries led to a decrease in schools and food rations and health services.
Rohingya, a Muslim ethnic minority group, began to escape from its own Rakhine states in 2017 after the Buddhist militias, allegedly supported by Myanmar’s army, opened a wave of violence against them.
After the army came to power in the 2021 coup and a largely ethnic militia withdrew from the Buddhist majority in Rakhine, the situation worsening against the Arakan Army, where 150,000 people triggered a migration to Bangladesh.
On September 26, Bangladesh’s temporary leader Muhammad Yunus said that the UN General Assembly was on the verge of collapse by the Rohingya refugee crisis and the drying of international aid, and immediately called on a global action to prevent a “disaster.
Yunus, who came to power after mass protests overthrowing Sheikh Hasina, said, “The ongoing conflict in the neighboring country threatens not only regional stability, but also threatens the expectations of Rohingya, which was forced to displaced in Bangladesh,”.
The official warned that the fund cuts will soon reduce food support as a $ 6 per person and deepen hunger and insecurity in camps.
Orum I urge existing donors to stand out with advanced contributions and potential donors to make a generous contribution to prevent this disaster situation, ”he said.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the new UK aid package contains £ 6 million for camp management and food, £ 4.2 million for water and sanitation, and £ 1.5 million for health services.
The United Kingdom said that the initiative reflects the ongoing leadership in global human intervention and the commitment to address the main reasons for displacement in Myanmar, where access to humanitarian aid is seriously restricted.
The latest commitment has been bringing the total aid to 447 million pounds for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh since 2017.
