Labor Department Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned from the Trump administration, the White House said Monday.

White House communications director Steven Cheung said in the X post that Chavez-DeRemer, 58, “will take a position in the private sector.”

Deputy Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling will take over the department in an acting capacity, Cheung wrote.

Chavez-DeRemer reportedly She was embroiled in an investigation by the Labor Department inspector general into allegations of professional misconduct, including her use of agency resources for personal travel and having an affair with a member of her security team.

New York Times reported It said Monday that Chavez-DeRemer is expected to be questioned as part of an internal investigation in the coming days.

“He has done an outstanding job in his role protecting American workers, enforcing fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives,” Cheung wrote in X on Monday afternoon.

The Labor Department did not immediately respond to CNBC’s requests for comment on Chavez-DeRemer’s departure.

The announcement adds to a short but growing list of senior officials to resign or be removed from President Donald Trump’s second Cabinet.

Kristi Noem, who led the Department of Homeland Security, was fired by Trump on March 5 after a tumultuous tenure highlighted by national debates over immigration enforcement in U.S. cities.

Less than a month later, Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi, replacing her with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. The move comes amid reports that the president is increasingly dissatisfied with how the Justice Department under Bondi is handling matters related to notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
