Two CIA officers killed in Mexico when their car skidded off ravine and exploded after meeting about bust of ‘largest ever drug lab’

Two CIA officers were killed in a fiery car crash following a meeting discussing the raid on the ‘largest ever drug lab’ in Mexico, according to reports.
The officers, whose names were not disclosed, died along with two Mexican officials in an accident that occurred in the state of Chihuahua on Sunday.
Mexican authorities said the car went off the road and exploded when it crashed into a ravine.
Sources said the Americans were initially identified as US embassy officials. Washington Post They said they worked for the Central Intelligence Agency.
They reportedly worked with the agency as part of an expanded U.S. role in combating drug trafficking at the southern border, the news outlet reported.
The crash occurred as the four victims were returning from a meeting with Mexican officials to discuss an April 18 raid on a large pharmaceutical laboratory in a remote area of Chihuahua, near the U.S.-Mexico border.
Chihuahua’s attorney general, César Jáuregui Moreno, described the drug laboratory as ‘perhaps one of the largest laboratories ever found’ and told Mexico’s El Universal newspaper that the Americans were not directly involved in the raid.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum launched an investigation into the crash, vowing to find out whether CIA involvement violated national security laws.

Sources told the Post that CIA officers’ involvement in drug operations comes amid a broader push by CIA Director John Ratcliffe to take a more aggressive stance against the narcotics trade.
This reportedly led the agency to increase intelligence sharing with Mexican authorities in hopes of preventing cross-border smuggling.
President Trump has also repeatedly threatened dramatic action against Mexico’s powerful cartels since his re-election and launched a series of controversial airstrikes on alleged drug-smuggling boats in South America and the Caribbean.
Joint US-Mexico operations led to the location of the ‘largest ever’ drug bust in Chihuahua, but only Mexican officials were involved in raiding the lab on April 18, officials said.
Footage from last week’s raid showed numerous boxes and drug equipment used to produce methamphetamine scattered around the open-air laboratory.
The car crash that killed two CIA agents and two Mexican officials occurred the next day.
It was stated that the Mexicans who died in the accident were Pedro Ramón Oseguera Cervantes, regional director of the Chihuahua State Investigation Agency (AEI), and his bodyguard.

Speaking on Monday after the crash, Sheinbaum said he was not informed that any US officials would take part in the raid on the large pharmaceutical laboratory.
“We were unaware of any direct cooperation between the state of Chihuahua and the staff of the U.S. Embassy in Mexico,” the Mexican President said.
‘The relationship is federal, not state. ‘They need to get authorization from the federal government for this cooperation, which must take place at the state level as stipulated by the Constitution.’
U.S. involvement in cartels and the drug trade in Mexico has become a controversial issue in the country due to a long history of what Mexican officials say is a violation of jurisdiction.
Sheinbaum stated that he was not aware of any ‘joint operations on land or in the air’ involving US officials such as the CIA, and said he would demand answers about the drug raid.
