With limited campaigning by Vijay, TVK faces a litmus test in debut election

As the high-decibel campaign for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, one of the most closely watched contests in recent years, came to an end on Tuesday evening, the spotlight turned to the fledgling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), founded by actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay.

A new entrant into the hotly contested electoral battleground of Tamil Nadu, the famous Kollywood star Mr. Vijay, whose popularity the party is banking on to face the election, has attracted huge crowds on his freewheeling tours, attracting a significant number of women and youth.
