Parade times, dawn service, what is open or closed
Anzac Day falls on a Saturday this year, meaning we don’t get an extra day off in Queensland.
However, opening hours and restrictions on alcohol sales apply as if Anzac Day were a weekday public holiday on Saturday.
This means non-exempt businesses must remain closed that day, and some exempt ones may not open until 1 p.m. or 1:30 p.m.
Who is closed all day?
Large retailers, including supermarkets, department stores and hardware stores, are “non-exempt stores” and must remain closed on Anzac Day.
So this means there will be no Coles, Woolies, Aldi, Bunnings, Myer, David Jones, Kmart, Target or Big W (except Woolworths at Brisbane Airport, which is open from 1pm).
Car dealerships must also remain closed all day.
Factories and offices must remain closed unless related to essential services, electricity and water, milk supply or food preparation services in restaurants and cafes.
Who opens at 13.00?
Independent retail stores They are allowed to start trading from 1pm on Anzac Day unless they are predominantly food and/or grocery stores; In this case, they can theoretically trade without restrictions.
İGAs are independent grocery stores, so you will find some open on Anzac Day.
Who’s open as always?
Stores that can open as usual are listed Business Queensland website It includes food and grocery stores, service stations, butchers, bakers, chemists, florists, greengrocers, fishmongers and many more.
Cafes and other restaurants are considered “baked goods stores” and are therefore exempt. So yes, you will be able to grab a coffee.
But many such “exempt” businesses still choose to remain closed or not open until 1 p.m. Check ahead to make sure.
What about bars?
Pubs, bars and other licensed premises are subject to special conditions.
On the day before Anzac Day (Friday 24 April), the sale and supply of alcohol and gambling must stop at midnight (gambling in casinos is permitted until 3am). Customers have until 12.30pm to finish their drinks.
On Anzac Day, RSLs and service clubs are allowed to serve alcohol from 5am, but other licensed premises must wait until 10am until 1pm unless they also serve food.
Alcohol is not allowed in takeaways until 13:00 on April 25th.
Gambling is not allowed in licensed venues until noon.
Where can I play two-up?
Doubles are only permitted on designated days such as Anzac Day and only at RSLs or service clubs or a venue that has approval from an RSL sub-branch.
What about cinemas etc.?
Places of “public entertainment” Places such as cinemas, galleries and gyms are not allowed to open until 13.30.
