‘Father of the year’ murders 11-year-old son in airport bathroom before turning gun on himself

A father who was recently praised by his young son in a ‘father of the year’ article shot him dead in an airport toilet moments before committing suicide.
Giovanni Perez, 37, killed 11-year-old Callan and then himself at Elko Regional Airport in Nevada earlier this month.

According to Chiesa, Callan’s friends also named a pet guinea pig in class after him.
‘Sweet Callan would be so excited,’ he wrote. ‘Our sweet angel is smiling, I know it.’

According to Elko police, the murder-suicide occurred around noon on April 13 at Elko Regional Airport in Nevada.
On Wednesday afternoon, Elko police told the Daily Mail they were ‘still tracking where Perez and Callan were living at the time of their deaths.’
A spokesman confirmed the father and son had ‘links’ to Merced, California, and told the Daily Mail a missing person report was filed from Clovis last December.
No further details were given about this report, but it was found a month later in Ogden, Utah.
“Ogden was the last place we believed they were living, but we are trying to follow up on that,” a spokesperson for Elko police told the Daily Mail.
