Tamil Nadu elections 2026: Over 84% voter turnout in the State, highest in its electoral history

April 23, 2026 was a red letter day tamil naduElection history as the state recorded the highest voting percentage parliamentary election – 84.69% (until 20:00 on Thursday). According to provisional figures, more than 4.85 crore people voted as on 7 am in all 234 Assembly constituencies to elect the 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said this was the highest voting percentage in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. “[The] ECI welcomes all voters in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.”
