Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann arrested for alleged probation violation

The Florida mayor who was taken into custody Monday for allegedly violating his probation stemming from a previous DUI case said he “did not resist” when he turned himself in to authorities.
Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann was arrested by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for an alleged parole violation.
In February, he pleaded no contest to a DUI with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 or higher stemming from an Aug. 28, 2024, arrest.
The probation sentence included a promise not to consume alcohol and a requirement that he be subject to random screenings. Heitmann was spotted on March 26, Heitmann said in a statement on Facebook on Thursday.

“The test gave a result that I immediately objected to,” he wrote.
Two subsequent scans — a urine test and a hair follicle analysis — returned negative results, Heitmann said. “He said he didn’t wait to be asked. I took action.”
Learning that he would be arrested, Heitmann said he had previously tried to voluntarily surrender to authorities on April 17, based on disputed test results. But he said he was told “the system is not yet ready to process my surrender.”
He surrendered Monday after an arrest warrant went into effect.

“I did not resist,” Heitmann wrote. “I didn’t hide. I came out because that’s what I’ve always done. I won’t shy away from this moment and I won’t let a false narrative define my character or my service history.”
Court documents cited by Naples Daily News It was claimed that Heitmann tested positive for cannabinoids.
His lawyer, Derek Verderamo, argued that two samples taken from Heitmann tested negative for illegal cannabinoids on March 26 and March 30.

Heitmann was first arrested in August 2024 after breathalyzer tests determined his blood alcohol content was 0.155 and 0.169; In Florida, the legal limit is 0.08.
