Iran to make offer aimed at satisfying US demands, Trump tells Reuters

WASHINGTON, April 24 (Reuters) – Iran plans to make an offer aimed at meeting U.S. demands as peace talks are expected to resume in Pakistan, U.S. President Donald Trump told Reuters on Friday.

“They’re making an offer and we’ll have to see,” Trump said during the phone call.

Trump said he didn’t know yet what the proposal would be. He insisted that any deal would include Iran giving up its enriched uranium and freeing up oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

US ambassadors Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner plan to go to Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Saturday to meet with the Iranian delegation.

Trump voiced concerns on Thursday about who is running Iran, and US officials said they “believe the leadership is fractured.”

Asked on Friday who the US was negotiating with, Trump said: “I don’t want to say it, but we’re dealing with the people who are responsible right now.”

He refused to give names.

Reuters had previously reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi was expected to discuss proposals for resuming peace talks with the United States in Islamabad on Friday.

Trump insisted on “USA.” The army will continue the blockade of Iranian ports until an agreement is reached.

When asked what was needed to lift the blockade, Trump said: “I’ll have to answer that question later. I need to see what they offer.” he said.
