A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after one man died and another was seriously injured at an address in Brighton.
Sussex Police said emergency services responded to reports of a fight at a property in Regency Square at around 2.10am on Sunday. Two people with knife injuries were found.
A man in his 30s was taken to hospital in a serious condition. The second man, 37, died at the scene a short time later, police said. His relatives were informed.
Police said a 26-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of class A drugs with intent to supply. He remained in custody Sunday afternoon.
As the investigation continues, police said there would be an increased police presence in and around Regency Square, which is home to the seafront and early 19th-century buildings, some of which are listed.
Brighton Chief Inspector Adam Hays said: “This incident had devastating consequences, resulting in the loss of one life and serious injuries to another.
“There is not believed to be any wider risk to the public and a full investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“As this continues there will be an increased police presence in and around Regency Square.
“We are committed to tackling knife crime forcefully and will take swift and decisive action against those involved in violent crime in Brighton.”
