Wild moment teens ‘surf’ on roof of Sydney bus

Police are hunting for two boys surfing on the roof of a bus in Sydney’s east on Sunday afternoon.

Wild footage shows two teenagers getting on the roof of the 356 bus traveling from Eastgardens to Bondi Junction at around 11.40am on Sunday.

Children were lying and resting on the roof of the vehicle; this was a dangerous and illegal act known as “bus surfing.”

The teenagers got off the bus when the driver stopped at Queens Park.

A NSW Police spokesman told NewsWire police spotted the bus at Bondi Junction but the teenagers had already fled the scene.

Transport NSW co-ordinator general Howard Collins said the stunt could have life-changing consequences, especially if the bus ended up under a bridge or near exposed power lines.

“There is nothing harmless about this type of behavior. It endangers lives and disrupts the security of our transportation network,” he told 9News.

He said Transport NSW was working with police on the investigation.

“All too often young people get caught up in this situation and put themselves and others at serious risk,” Mr Collins said.

“This may be the last decision you make.”

Anyone with dashcam footage is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
