RMC Unveils ₹767.43 Crore Budget For City Development

KAKINADA: Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) Municipal Commissioner Rahul Meena said that the civic body has prepared its annual budget with an estimated expenditure of ₹767.43 crore, focusing on comprehensive development of the city.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, he said the budget includes an opening balance of 147.90 crore and an estimated revenue of 619.53 crore. Expenditure on development initiatives, infrastructure projects, salaries and allowances was estimated at `630.98 crore.
He said that the issuance of municipal bonds is expected to generate 30 billion additional revenue in the current fiscal year. Plans were being formulated to provide returns to bond buyers through dividends.
Rahul Meena said that in the last financial year, the company achieved a tax collection efficiency of 83.55 per cent, ranking second in the state among municipal corporations.
Replying to queries, he said top priority was being given to sanitation in the city. A tender was held for the cleaning of the main and secondary sewers, and the work was planned to be completed by the end of May.
He said that approval has been received for the construction of 18 public toilets across the city with a grant of ₹5 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission and the work will begin soon.
The commissioner said the single-use plastic ban was strictly enforced and warned that encroachments on roads, pavements and drains would not be tolerated. He added that the company aims to ensure safe drinking water supply by conducting daily water quality tests.
He said that the work on the 50 MLD sewage water treatment plant will be completed soon. Within the scope of the traffic management system, special attention was also paid to road widening and intersection development.
Rahul Meena said that the company aims to accelerate the overall development ahead of Godavari Pushkaralu-2027.
