Golders Green stabbing latest: Man arrested after two people attacked in north London, says Jewish security group

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy said the Golders Green attack was “appalling”.

“No one should live in fear because of who they are,” he said. “We stand with the Jewish community and must root out this hatred.”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan commented on the incident in Golders Green.

Sir Sadiq said: “There has been a horrific attack on two London Jews in Golders Green. Police have made an arrest and I would like to thank all emergency services in the area and the heroic volunteers at @Hatzola @ShomrimLondon for their rapid response to this horrific incident.”

Rabbi Herschel Gluck, president of Shomrim Stamford Hill, said: Independent He said he hoped the government would do more to protect the Jewish community, but said one of the victims was “seriously injured.”

He said: “This is extremely shocking but unfortunately not surprising. We were warning that this could happen and the government needed to take the right action to prevent it. Unfortunately they did not listen but hopefully this will now change.”

He confirmed that he knew the victims.

“One actually lives in Stamford Hill but was in Golders Green. They’re both from our community. One of them was seriously injured.

“We look forward to positive constructive measures that will increase community protection.”

Labour’s Finchley and Golders Green MP Sarah Sackman said “attacks on British Jews are an attack on Britain itself” after two men were stabbed in her constituency.

The justice minister said: “I have been made aware of a serious stabbing in Golders Green. The suspect has been detained. I would like to thank Shomrim, Hatzola, the police and CST (Community Security Trust) for their vital work in apprehending the perpetrator.”

“Attacks against British Jews are an attack on Britain itself. Targeting Jews in this way is unconscionable.

“I will meet with the Minister of Internal Affairs soon to discuss the emergency.”

Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, said the stabbings reported in Golders Green, north London, on Wednesday were “yet another appalling anti-Semitic attack”.

In his post on X, he said: “This is another horrific antisemitic attack. The Jewish community is not properly protected from this hatred.”

“We have seen Iran sponsoring antisemitic attacks and the proliferation of Islamist extremism. The government must urgently step up concrete actions against antisemitism, Iran, and Islamist extremism.”

The incident in Golders Green was raised in the House of Commons by Hornsey and Friern Barnet MP Catherine West.

He said: “The whole House will be very concerned to hear about the horrific stabbings in Barnet County this morning.”

The Labor MP said he was “very concerned about this repeated violence against the Jewish community”.

He added: “We condemn these alleged attacks and wish the police, the council and all community services the best in resolving this situation and bringing the perpetrators of these violent crimes to justice.”

In a post on social media, the Board of Deputies of British Jews said: “We are aware of a reported stabbing in Golders Green which left two injured. “Police have arrested a suspect.

“We are liaising with CST, the Government and the police to understand what happened and ensure a strong response.”
