Nellore Authorities Back Order For Two Steel Deep-Sea Fishing Vessels

NELLORE: Giving a significant impetus to the deep sea fishing industry, six fishermen from the south coastal region of AP have ordered two steel deep sea fishing boats, which have a shipyard in Nagapattinam of Tamil Nadu.

Fishermen performed puja before the construction of steel boats started at the shipyard. Each boat will be equipped with a 650 HP high-speed engine and will be deployed off the coastline of Nellore district.

Nellore district authorities had approved these high-speed boats when fishermen from various coastal villages in Nellore, Prakasam and Tirupati districts met in Nellore a few days ago.

Those present at the meeting included representatives of fishermen and officials from the Fisheries department, including Chand Basha, deputy director of Fisheries, Nellore district. According to the official press release, joint director of fisheries K. Shanti coordinated the programme.

District collector Himanshu Shukla released an initial advance of ₹30 lakh for the production of the two boats. The initiative aims to increase deep-sea fishing capacity and improve the livelihoods of local fishermen, officials said.
