New Zealand public broadcaster’s political editor suspended from parliament after breaching press rules

April 30 (Reuters) – The political editor of New Zealand public broadcaster TVNZ has been banned from covering parliament for five days for violating press gallery rules, spokesman Gerry Brownlee said on Thursday.
• Brownlee said in a statement that Maiki Sherman’s recent behavior in trying to secure an interview “went beyond the prescription and spirit of the rules previously accepted by the press gallery and parliament.”
• “TVNZ political editor Ms Sherman informed me that it was not her intention to break the rules, but she accepted that she had done so and accepted the decision in that regard,” he said.
• “Other outlets also breached parliamentary rules by pursuing a story about the National Party’s convention activities on April 21,” Brownlee added.
• The ban will last from May 1 to May 6, Brownlee said.
