Invited to the Oval Office by Donald Trump, the royal biographer shared what the president said about Prince William and Prince Harry. Robert Hardman meets Queen Elizabeth II as King Charles’s state visit draws to a close. He was invited to the White House to celebrate the launch of his new book about Elizabeth.

Recalling the “incredible” visit heralded by many as a diplomatic success, the president was frank in his views about the monarch’s children. Opinions were mixed; The US leader clearly favored Charles’ eldest son. Regarding Prince William, she said: “William will be a good King, won’t he? He’s a very good guy. A great man. I love him.”

But Mr. Trump was less complimentary about his younger brother Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, according to Mr. Hardman’s newspaper column. Daily Mail.

After asking whether the estranged prince could make a return to the Royal Family, Mr Hardman told the president that “any return to the royal family seems unlikely”.

Mr. Trump responded: “I guess there are a lot of things. His wife. Boy, what did she do to that man?”

He added: “I think she was blocked by William’s wife.

“How’s it going? It’s so amazing. He was sick, people were saying crazy things about him, and he was so brave.”

The comments continue a subtle war of words between the prince and the president, triggered by comments Harry made during his visit to Ukraine last month.

Harry gave a long and exciting speech at the Kiev Security Forum, saying that he was not here “as a politician”, but as “a soldier who understands service” and a “humanitarian”.

In a rare foray into global affairs, the King’s youngest son turned his attention to the United States (though he did not mention Mr. Trump by name), urging “American leadership” to “fulfill its international treaty obligations” as part of its “enduring role in global security.”

Harry said: “The United States has a unique role in this story. Not just because of its power, but because America is part of the assurance that Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders will be respected when Ukraine gives up nuclear weapons.”

“This is a moment for American leadership, a moment for America to demonstrate that it can fulfill its international treaty obligations, not out of charity but out of its enduring role in global security and strategic stability.”

Responding to the speech, the US president told reporters: “I know one thing, Prince Harry does not speak for the United Kingdom, that’s for sure. I think I speak for the United Kingdom more than Prince Harry.”

“But I really appreciate his advice,” he added.

Mr. Trump continued: “How is he? How is his wife? Please give her my regards.”
