Street shooting puts four people in hospital with one victim fighting for life after gunmen fire from Brixton car

Four people were taken to hospital, one of them with life-threatening injuries, following a drive-by shooting in Brixton, south London, in the early hours of Saturday.

The 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital and his life is in danger; Three other people, ages 21, 47 and 70, were also hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The Metropolitan Police said the injuries were neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

Police officers were called to Coldharbour Road in Brixton at 1.14am on Saturday after gunshots were heard; They arrived at the scene within four minutes and provided first aid together with paramedics.

No arrests have been made yet.

In a video posted online purporting to depict the attack in Brixton, a man can be seen performing CPR on the pavement as police car sirens blare from behind.

He appeared to be lying on the ground next to Coldharbour Lane Open Space, outside the railings of the trolley wash opposite Jimmy’s Plaice seafood restaurant.

Another man, wearing a yellow wool hat, is seen receiving medical treatment from paramedics and police officers on a nearby bench.

Businesses who spoke to the Daily Mail said police set up a wide cordon on Saturday that stretched all the way back to Gresham Road.

Inspectors in blue overalls, masks and gloves examined the debris on the road.

Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, who is leading the investigation, described the attack as an ‘indiscriminate act of violence’.

‘We understand how worrying this incident will be for the local community and want to reassure residents that officers are working quickly to identify those responsible.’

The Met said anyone with information was encouraged to come forward and there would be an increased police presence in the area in the coming days.

A force spokesman told the Daily Mail: ‘Police were called at 1.14am on Saturday, May 2, following reports of gunfire on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton.

Police officers, including specialist crime officers, arrived at the scene within four minutes and provided emergency first aid along with the London Ambulance Service.

‘Four people injured with bullets were taken to hospital. The life of a 25-year-old person remains in danger.

Three other people, aged 21, 47 and 70, were also hospitalized. ‘The injuries were not assessed to be life-threatening or life-altering.’
