Trump says he wants to be President ‘for next 9 years’ in chilling threat | World | News

Donald Trump sparked outrage after saying he could be President for the next “nine years”. The 79-year-old attended a business summit on Monday and addressed attendees, saying he could be President for two more terms before ranting about how well he is physically and mentally.
Some interpreted the President’s comments as a threat to the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which states that a person may serve no more than two terms as President. Talking about tax policies for companies in the US, which states that businesses can deduct the costs of new facilities, Trump joked that he could use this when he is no longer President. “Let’s say eight or nine years from now, when I leave the office, I’ll be able to use it. I’ll be able to use it myself,” he said.
A clip of the chilling remarks went viral on social media, with people sharing their concerns about what the President said.
“This is not a joke and I don’t find it funny,” said one X user.
Another shared: “What disgusts me the most is that people are laughing at this ‘joke’!”
Trump sought to allay concerns about his physical and mental health after making the comments, and he took the opportunity to tell the crowd that former President Biden, who defeated Trump in the 2020 US election, would fail a cognitive test if he were given it.
“Everyone running for president or vice president must take a cognitive test. And no president other than me has ever taken that test. I took all three and passed on each one; one in the first administration, two here,” he said. “How do you think Biden would have done? I don’t think he could have answered the first question correctly.”
Trump has recently faced accusations that he is in poor health, and some have questioned his ability to hold his position of power. He was recently accused of being “not well” following late-night social media posts, including a preview of the planned redesign of Washington D.C.’s iconic reflecting pool.
Starting at 11:03pm local time, the US president shared an AI-generated image showing himself, JD Vance and Marc Rubio paddling topless in the famous Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, whose granite floor will be colored “American flag blue” using an “industrial-grade pool” surface rather than being restored.
