Bet on the Pistons bullying the Cavaliers in the 2026 Eastern Conference Semifinals

It took seven games for both teams to advance to the first round, but the fourth-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers now face the top-seeded Detroit Pistons in the 2026 Eastern Conference Semifinals.

I hear people say Cleveland is a tough matchup for Detroit and I STRONGLY disagree.

In fact, the Cavs are taking money from the market to beat the Pistons in the second round. Regardless, I like Detroit to win the series (-121) and I like the Pistons to beat the Cavaliers at Kalshi by at least two games (+189).

Regular season episode doesn’t tell the whole story

Regardless, these teams split the regular season series 2-2, with Cleveland leading the series 3-1.

However, things are different in the playoffs, where styles lead to fighting and coaches and players adjust midway through the series.

Sure, Cavs All-Stars James Harden and Donovan Mitchell are great scorers, but they’re both very good defensively.

Cade Cunningham is the best player in this series. He can run the offense, defend and control the game. Meanwhile, Detroit wing Ausar Thompson is one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA.

Ausar Thompson could wreak havoc on Cleveland’s offense

Even if Harden draws with Cade, which he won’t, Thompson will lock up Mitchell.

Mitchell is a tough shooter, but he also prefers to step back and take tough shots. This won’t work against Thompson.

Detroit has the defensive personnel to disrupt Cleveland’s offense, and that will matter more in the playoff run than in the regular season.

Detroit must dominate the possession battle

High-level basketball games are determined by the battle for position, and Detroit needs to dominate that area.

The Pistons averaged +4.3 shot attempts per game during the regular season as they ranked third in offensive rebound rate and led the NBA in defensive turnover rate.

WHY ARE THE PISTONS BEING IN THE GAME AT -3.5 AS THE SECOND NAME OF THE NBA PLAY-OFF BEGINS IN DETROIT?

This is a huge advantage in the play-off series.

More shots. More second chances. There’s more pressure on a Cleveland team that doesn’t have the physicality to respond consistently.

Pistons may challenge Cavaliers on the glass

I’m chalking it up to muscle memory, but the Pistons will bully the Cavs in the paint.

You’d think Cleveland would be a better defensive rebounding team with two All-Star greats in PF Evan Mobley and C Jarrett Allen.

But the New York Knicks bullied the Cavaliers in the playoffs a few years ago, and I see this series continuing in a similar fashion.

New York had 29 more offensive rebounds as it defeated Cleveland 4-1 in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

Of course, the Knicks’ roster was a little different back then. However, this Pistons team has a higher offensive rebound rate than the Knicks team.

Jalen Düren is preparing for his comeback series

This should also be a comeback series for Detroit center Jalen Duren, who competed in the first round against the Orlando Magic.

Duren averaged 21.7 points and 12.3 rebounds in three games against the Cavs during the regular season, and Mobley and Allen played in all of those games.

Düren and Pistons backup star Isaiah Stewart will keep the Cavaliers up front and give Detroit extra possessions throughout this series.

These are the kinds of things that will affect the play-off games.

Cleveland’s first-round win wasn’t that impressive

Finally, I downgraded Cleveland after their first-round win over the Toronto Raptors.

Toronto had a good season, but the Raptors were without two starters for most of the series and were the 11th betting option to win the East entering the season.

Meanwhile, the Magic were the third betting option from the East, behind the Cavs and Knicks.

In other words, I can understand Orlando making headway with Detroit.

But I can’t ignore the fact that the Cavaliers narrowly beat the Raptors and failed to win a single game in Toronto.

Detroit is a better, tougher, more physical team. The Pistons have to win this series, and I like them to do it with room to spare.

Best Bet: Detroit Pistons -1.5 series games (+189)
