Kemi Badenoch has vowed to ‘bring toughness back’ to Britain as she pledges to crack down on welfare, asylum and cracking down on low-level crime.
The Conservative leader said voters were ‘crying’ for a tougher approach that would bring ‘consequences’ for those who plunder the system.
Ms Badenoch told the Daily Mail that the Conservative government would prevent anyone from claiming the benefits as a ‘lifestyle’ choice and called for a ‘no-tolerance approach’ to crimes such as shoplifting, ticket evasion, vandalism and drug-taking in public places.
He has pledged to fund an extra 10,000 police officers to implement a ‘broken windows’ style strategy that helped clean up places like New York in the 1990s, ensuring that even minor acts of anti-social behavior are dealt with seriously.
But Ms Badenoch also called on police to prioritize crimes that damage the fabric of society, rather than pursuing drivers for minor offences.
