‘Last rites’ of INDIA bloc: BJP on Cong-DMK fallout in Tamil Nadu
The saffron party also attacked the opposition INDIA bloc, claiming that the alliance was “dispersed like a deck of cards” and lacked any common ideology or vision.
Sources said that the Tamil Nadu Congress has decided to support TVK leader Vijay in forming a secular government in the state.

The decision to support TVK was taken at an emergency meeting of the Tamil Nadu Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) late Tuesday night.
Reacting to the development, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that the INDIA alliance has effectively ended after the assembly election results were announced on May 4.

The BJP spokesperson claimed that the opposition bloc was formed solely out of political imperatives and personal ambitions.
“INDI alliance never had a mission or vision. Their coming together was only due to greed for position, corruption, commission and obsession with Modi ji. But now they are all falling apart like a deck of cards,” he said.
Questioning the unity of opposition parties, Poonawalla said that there was no alliance in many states during the election.
“Where was the INDI alliance in Bengal, Kerala, Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka? There is no INDI alliance,” he said.

DMK on Wednesday described the Congress’s move to support TVK as a “backstab” by its long-time national ally.
Speaking to PTI videos, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Anadurai said, “The Congress party decided to form an alliance with TVK by promising support to the party. I think they backstabbed… They backstabbed the people of Tamil Nadu. They backstabbed the mandate given by the people of Tamil Nadu.”
He said the decision was taken before the election process was fully concluded.
“They chose to move forward with the alliance even before the ink had dried on the returning officer’s signature on the victory certificate,” he said.
Vijay’s TVK won 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly and failed to reach the halfway mark. He needs the support of 10 MPs to form a government with a simple majority. The results were only announced on Monday.
While Congress won five seats, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) won four seats. CPI and CPI-M have two seats each. The outgoing ruling party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won 59 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won 47 seats.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam (AMMK) won only one seat, VCK won two seats.
While the Congress was fighting the assembly elections in a pre-poll alliance with the DMK, the BJP had a tie-up with the AIADMK.
