Mayport naval station: Jacksonville Base lockdown as ‘unauthorised vehicle’ breaks in | World | News

Located near Jacksonville on Florida’s Atlantic coast, Mayport Naval Station is one of the U.S. Navy’s most important military installations. The base is located at the mouth of the St. Johns River and provides direct access to the Atlantic Ocean for Navy ships and aircraft.
The facility serves as both a naval air facility and a deep-water port for warships. It supports a wide range of military operations, including fleet deployments, maritime security missions, training exercises, naval aviation activities and logistics support.
Naval Station Mayport hosts many guided missile destroyers and helicopter fleets and is considered a major fleet concentration area on the East Coast. The base also plays a key role in Atlantic and Caribbean operations, NATO exercises and humanitarian efforts.
