Suspended Senior IPS Officer Suspension Revoked, Reinstated As DGP

BENGALURU: The State Government on Wednesday informed the then Director General of Police, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, Dr. It canceled the suspension of K. Ramachandra Rao and appointed him as Director General of Police (Police Manual) with immediate effect.
However, the cancellation order stated that the disciplinary proceedings were initiated on March 18, 2026 under rule 8(4) of the All India Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969. Investigation against the senior IPS officer is ongoing.
Here, Dr. It may be recalled that K. Ramachandra Rao was suspended after some video clips circulated in the public domain, in which Ramachandra Rao was seen romancing women in uniform in his room. Following Rao’s leaked videos, the State Government suspended him.
The post of Director General of Police (Police Manual) has been declared to be equivalent in status and responsibilities to the cadre post of Director General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Special Units and Economic Crimes, Bengaluru.
The cancellation order stated that the State Government, in exercise of its powers conferred under Rule-3 (7) © of the All India Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, set aside the suspension and reappointed Dr K. Ramachandra Rao into service with immediate effect.
