M61 traffic LIVE: Motorway closed near Bolton as man dies on road – M60 also delayed | UK | News

The M61 was closed in both directions after a man died on the motorway on Friday.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “We were called today (Friday 8 May 2026) to reports of a concern for the welfare of the M61. “Sadly a man died at the scene.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The motorway will be closed in both directions between junction 2 at Linnyshaw and junction 4 at Over Hulton while officers carry out their inquiries.”
