Khadija Shaw: Manchester City striker named Football Writers’ Association women’s player of the year

Shaw looks set to leave City this summer after new contract talks stalled.
Chelsea, who won six consecutive titles before City’s latest success, are favorites to sign Shaw, who has not previously considered leaving the club.
But a breakdown in communication led him to explore other options and Chelsea are understood to have offered him a contract for at least another year than City are willing to accept.
Reports suggest Chelsea are prepared to pay Shaw up to £1 million a year, and while boss Sonia Bompastor gave no indication whether Shaw’s future lies at the club, she admitted in a press conference on Thursday that signing the number nine is high on the Blues’ priority list.
Speaking on Friday, City manager Andree Jeglertz said: “I still hope he will sign a new contract with Manchester City but that is more of a discussion for the player and the people at the club.
“The most important thing right now is to enjoy our player and he is here to compete with us and do everything he can.”
City will face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday (15:30 BST), with the winner going on to face either Liverpool or Brighton at Wembley on 31 May.
