Is The Devil Wears Prada 3 Happening? David Frankel Responds

Los Angeles: It seems that director David Frankel is not ruling out the possibility of a third ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ movie being made soon. Following the strong response to ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, the filmmaker shared that he would ‘love’ to revisit the popular characters if the right opportunity arises.

The sequel recently brought back the original cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, nearly 20 years after the first film was released. Following the film’s box office success, discussions among fans about a possible third installment began once again.

Speaking to Variety, Frankel admitted that he never expected to return for a second movie after the original. However, he said he wouldn’t completely close the door on another sequel. Talking about the possibility of returning to the world of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ once again and spending time with the ‘great actors’ of the series, Frankel said, “Look, it took us 20 years to do this. So I said ‘Never again’ and here we are. So I would definitely never say ‘Never again’. Let’s see what happens. If there was an opportunity to revisit the characters and share a few months with these great actors, I would still love it, frankly.” Frankel also talked about adding callbacks and references from the original film into the sequel. From Andy brushing his teeth in the opening montage to the “same belts” scene to the famous “sky blue sweater” reference, the filmmaker shared that many nostalgic moments were carefully incorporated into the film.

Talking about balancing these references without going overboard, he said: “There were little things that were added later in the game, like the belts. Other things like the sky blue sweater and lyrics like “A million girls would kill for this” were easy to do. Then we had to go through and edit some of them because [if there were] Too much, you’ll get a little angry with us.” ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ was released in theaters on May 1, 2026 and received positive response from critics as well as moviegoers.
