LeBron James shows love to Caitlin Clark on his Instagram after her historic 45-point performance

Sage Steele: WNBA mishandles generational talent Caitlin Clark
Sage Steele, host of ‘The Sage Steele Show’, claims the WNBA mismanaged generational talent Caitlin Clark. Steele has been critical of the league’s consistent mismanagement, which has led to numerous unnecessary fouls against Clark and other players this season. It highlights that this continued neglect risks losing the WNBA’s growing fan base.
Caitlin Clark had a historic performance against the Seattle Storm on Friday night. The Fever broke franchise records and broke WNBA records. His 45-point and 10-assist performance caught the attention of sports fans across the country and even one of basketball’s all-time greats.
NBA free agent LeBron James showed the Indiana Fever star some love on his Instagram story on Saturday. James reshared a post in collaboration with ESPN, SportsCenter, WNBA and ESPN W. The post showcased some of Clark’s best plays; These included his end-to-end and -1, one of his four steals that led to a transition three and, of course, his final three-pointer that gave the Fever a decisive lead.
LeBron James and Caitlin Clark have developed one of the most unique superstar relationships in basketball. They’ve been supporting each other since Clark started college at Iowa. Logical. He is the face of both his league and Nike athletes.

LEBRON JAMES CONGRATULATES CAITLIN CLARK AFTER SETTING DIANA TAURASI’S MILESTONE RECORD IN HER WNBA CAREER
Before Clark entered the WNBA, when she was a rising star at Iowa, James openly supported her and defended her against critics, while praising the way she transformed women’s basketball. He compared her journey to his own experience as an 18-year-old phenom breaking into the NBA, noting the similarities between being labeled as the face of a league, dealing with constant scrutiny, and being expected to change the game on the fly. LeBron called Clark a “superior player,” highlighting her elite basketball IQ, passing ability and vision, while also acknowledging her impact on the growth of the WNBA.

Clark returned the favor by expressing similar admiration for LeBron, calling him one of his greatest basketball idols and describing him as the greatest of all time. (Yes, unfortunately he believes LeBron is superior to Michael Jordan.)
When the two finally met in person in March 2025, after the Los Angeles Lakers played the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis (where the Fever also play their home games), Clark admitted that the moment was surreal because he had grown up watching LeBron dominate the NBA. She appreciated that he understood the unique challenges of being a generational talent under the microscope and supported her through the ups and downs of her professional transition.

Their relationship does not appear to be a traditional mentor-student dynamic, but rather a connection between two athletes making a huge impact in their respective leagues.
Whatever you think of LeBron’s legacy, his game, his politics, or his platform, it’s nice to see how much he admires Clark and his game. It’s unlike anything the WNBA has ever seen. It’s nice to see the greatest player of all time backing him for the best game of his young career.
