‘It was madness’: Roy Keane gives his verdict after West Ham’s stoppage-time equaliser against Arsenal is RULED OUT by VAR in season’s most dramatic moment

Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes got a significant boost on Sunday with West Ham calling for a stoppage-time draw.
Callum Wilson thought he had saved one final point for the Hammers after putting the ball into the net.
However, his goal was disallowed after a long delay after teammate Pablo was ruled to have fouled David Raya as he flew towards the corner penalty area.
When VAR official Darren England could not make a decision about the foul, he sent referee Chris Kavanagh to the screen to review the incident.
There Kavanagh saw Pablo put his arm across Raya’s chest, preventing her from catching or parrying the ball.
The goal was disallowed and Arsenal waited impatiently for the final few minutes to win 1-0 and widen their five-point gap on Manchester City.
West Ham’s equalizing goal against Arsenal was disallowed due to a foul on David Raya
Raya insisted that Pablo had fouled her, which Chris Kavanagh eventually admitted after being sent to the screen to examine the flashpoint.
Had Arsenal only drawn, they would have been just three points ahead of City, who had a game in hand.
But with the title race firmly in their hands, West Ham are even closer to relegation.
The Hammers sit a point behind Tottenham, with a game against Leeds on Monday night.
In some ways this could be the most impactful review decision in history as it could lead Arsenal to a first title since 2004 and help end West Ham’s 14-season run at the top.
Arsenal were only in position to win after Leandro Trossard’s first goal of 2026 and a couple of crucial saves from Raya.
Mikel Arteta immediately sensed something was wrong with the flashpoint during stoppage time and signaled a foul on the touchline as Arsenal players gathered around Kavanagh.
While several players were tussling with each other in the penalty area, Raya got a finger on the ball but lost his balance and couldn’t make much of a gain.
Trossard told Sky Sports full-time: ‘David immediately said 100 per cent it wouldn’t be a goal, so I had a lot of belief because he was really convincing. But you never know. “It’s a relief.”
The Sky Sports expert team in the studio agreed with Raya’s assessment. Roy Keane was quick to point out how naive Pablo was in trying to thwart the goalkeeper, even though players from both teams committed possible fouls.
‘VAR will check everything,’ Keane said. ‘Do not put your hands on the goalkeeper. I think this is a foul. He (Pablo) must have known they would check VAR.
Jarrod Bowen led protests on behalf of West Ham. ‘When you look at the screen for five minutes, you’ll find something,’ full-timer said
‘This is madness, all kinds of fouls are being committed. This is a foul. There was chaos everywhere.
‘His arm is around your throat. He (Raya) is an Arsenal player and he will make the most of it! ‘Don’t give such an obvious foul.’
Jamie Redknapp added: ‘Pablo’s arm is on the goalkeeper and (Arsenal fans) are praying they can see that.
‘I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything in my life that held me back more than figuring out that moment… It was like watching the Super Bowl. “It was chaos.”
West Ham star Jarrod Bowen expressed his anger at the decision after the match. ‘If you look at the screen for five minutes you will find something,’ he became angry. ‘There was a lot of grappling and a lot of holding. The goalkeeper needs to wait for contact.
‘I’m sure you’ll find something if you look long enough. Do I think this is the right decision? NO.’
