Retiree Loses ₹56.8 Lakh In Digital Gold Fraud

A 63-year-old retiree from Vanasthalipuram lost more than ₹ 56.8 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam involving fake digital gold trading platforms.

According to the complaint filed with the Malkajgiri cybercrime police, the victim was added to the Telegram chat group on April 7 by a woman who identified herself as Nandhini Reddy. He allegedly convinced the victim to invest in digital gold trading through a website by promising high profits and guaranteed returns.

The victim initially invested ₹49,999, which was converted into USDT cryptocurrency. The small profits shown on his trading account convinced him that the platform was real. Encouraged by the returns shown in the application, he continued to transfer funds in multiple transactions as instructed by the fraudsters.

Investigators said the defendant then notified the victim via email that the trading website had been updated and a large balance appeared in the account. When he tried to withdraw the investment, the fraudsters allegedly demanded a seven per cent foreign exchange fee on the total USDT balance and an additional fee of ₹25.52 lakh as service charge.

After repeated payment requests and withdrawal failures, the victim realized that the platform was fraudulent. Police said he invested a total of ₹56.84 lakh and got back only ₹4,866 lakh, resulting in a loss of ₹56.80 lakh. A case has been registered and investigation is ongoing.

Engineer duped of ₹41.68 lakh in forex scam

A 33-year-old unemployed engineer from Hitec City area allegedly lost more than ₹ 41.68 lakh in a forex trading scam carried out through a dating app and Telegram.

The victim allegedly contacted a woman via a dating app last month. He introduced himself as a successful forex trader and persuaded her to invest in an online trading platform, promising guaranteed returns and daily withdrawals.

Initially the victim invested smaller amounts, but later transferred larger amounts after the platform claimed to have made huge profits of around Rs 35 lakh in the virtual account. The scammers repeatedly requested additional payments, and the victim continued to transfer money to various accounts linked to individuals, charities, and private firms.

The complainant paid over ₹42.53 lakh and received only ₹85,000 in return. When the defendant stopped responding, the victim realized that she had been defrauded and contacted the police.

Countercases filed following Kushaiguda clash

Police filed counter cases following a late night clash between two groups in Kushaiguda, which allegedly left many people injured.

According to the initial complaint, Rajeshwar Rao returned home after work around 11 pm and was talking to his friends Gowtham Reddy, Sudheer Reddy, Satish, Vamsi Chary and Naresh outside his house when a group of local youths named A. Mallesh, Shiva, Yathin and Kiran, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, created a disturbance nearby. The group temporarily dispersed after the surrounding people called the police.

Rao claimed that the accused later returned with more people and attacked them using stones, lights and hurled insults. Allegedly, many people suffered bleeding wounds, while Rao was injured by swelling in his left hand. The complaint also alleged that the defendant frequently consumed alcohol, smoked in public places, and caused disturbance in the area, especially late at night, causing fear among women, children and nearby residents.

In the counter-complaint, Mallesh, an autorickshaw driver, alleged that while he was returning home around the same time, he was involved in a minor altercation with another group near his location. He claimed that the opposing group attacked him and his friends with hands and sticks, and that his son was also attacked when he arrived at the scene.

M.midnight theft at the temple next to the police station

The midnight theft at a temple located next to Medipally police station has sparked criticism over the effectiveness of patrolling the area. According to police, an unidentified thief entered the Sri Pothuluri Veerabrahmendra Swamy temple late on Sunday night, broke the hundi and made off with cash offered by devotees.

Temple officials filed a complaint, but the value of the stolen amount could not be determined because it was not counted. No other valuables were reported missing. It was reported that CCTV cameras installed in the temple captured footage of the theft and the police examined it as part of the investigation.

Responding to the criticism, the police said that the accused may not have been aware that he was near the police station.

Couple burned in hotel fire in Patancheru

The couple, who own a restaurant, suffered burns on their faces after a fire broke out at their workplace in Patancheru on Sunday. The local fire station attended the emergency call and extinguished the fire, which was later placed in category D (minor fire). According to Sangareddy district fire officer Nageshwara Rao, the fire took place at Shiva Khanavali Hotel located near Patancheru bus stand.

A fire broke out in the G+1 building due to the leakage of the LPG cylinder, followed by an explosion caused by an electrical short circuit. The fire was brought under control in 45 minutes. The couple was rescued safely and taken to Sangareddy Government Hospital where their condition was out of danger, a firefighter said.

Hotel owner M. Jagadish and his wife Shoba suffered minor facial injuries. Before the fire truck reached the scene, both of them were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

Four Maoists caught in escape bid in Tandur

Four state-level Maoists, including a woman, were caught while trying to escape in the early hours of Sunday in Tandur district. Police said the four, along with seven other people, came to Tandur 10 days ago. While six people managed to escape to Maharashtra, the remaining four were caught red-handed at Tandur railway station in Vikarabad district.

Officials confirmed that the joint operation was carried out by the Maharashtra police and Tandur intelligence teams. Police said their role in Telangana was ignored. Special teams reportedly first found them disguised as workers in Rukmapur. Police announced that they were detained at the railway headquarters after their arrest.

Preliminary information indicates that cases are ongoing against three Maoists arrested, including women cadre, in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. The four had recently started working as laborers at Rukmapur railway station under Tandur Railway police station.

Sources said Tandur intelligence officials along with the Anti-Naxal Squad (ANS) of Maharashtra detained them and handed them over to the Maharashtra police for further investigation. When contacted, officials refused to disclose the names of the arrested Maoists, arguing that revealing their identities could alert the cadres and enable them to flee to other states via Maharashtra.

A 23-year-old man from AP’s Prakasam district died after being hit by an unidentified train between Moula Ali and Cherlapally stations, Secunderabad railway police said. The victim, Sheikh Nagur Khaja Vali, was identified based on data on the SIM card of his phone found near his body. DSP SM Jawed said that according to evidence at the scene, the victim was walking next to the tracks and did not notice the approaching train. Police contacted Valu’s family members, who said he had gone to Hyderabad in search of a job.

Missing 17-Year-Old Student Found Dead in Shamshabad Pond

A 17-year-old student, who went missing from his house in RC Puram, was found dead in Nanajipur pond in Shamshabad on Sunday, police said. According to sub-inspector Vanaja, the victim had gone with his family to a relative’s house warming ceremony at a function hall in Nanajipur. He reportedly asked his father for $500 but was rejected on Saturday. He was last seen leaving on a two-wheeler. When he did not return, his family went looking for him and found his body in the lake. They called the police, who took the body and sent it for autopsy. Police said they suspected the victim may have fallen into the water while evacuating himself. The police detected a suspicious death case and handed over the body of the victim to his family after the autopsy.
