A high school student was seriously injured after falling from the train platform and becoming trapped under the train at North Melbourne station.
Emergency services arrived at the scene to help save the boy, a Year 7 student at St Aloysius College in North Melbourne.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson confirmed there was an incident in North Melbourne at around 3.50pm on Monday.
“A child with serious lower body injuries was transported to the Royal Children’s Hospital by road ambulance. No further details are available at this stage.”
A letter was sent to parents from St Aloysius principal Mary Farah on Monday afternoon, confirming that a serious incident had occurred but saying details were limited.
“At around 4pm today we received reports that one of our Year 7 students was involved in an accident at North Melbourne Railway Station. At this stage we have very few specific details about the circumstances or the student’s current condition,” the letter said.
“Events like this can be deeply disturbing for our young people. Please take care of your child’s health this evening.”
A Department for Transport spokesman said there were some minor delays and cancellations on the Werribee, Craigburn and Upfield lines shortly after 4pm, but the impact on passengers was minimal.
